I am reminded of the parents who spend all kinds of money on Christmas presents for their kids, and the kids spend all day Christmas playing with the boxes in which the presents were wrapped. After a couple of months shopping for books, joining two book clubs, and spending time in the Book Tavern and Barnes and Noble, I found a very old copy of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck on the shelf in the living room and began to read. The more I read, the more I wanted to read and now I am halfway through the novel. Even though I majored in English, I was never required to read The Grapes of Wrath. That has started me thinking. When I graduated from USCA in 2007, I set a couple of personal goals for myself: to read as many of the classics as possible and to write at least two hours a day. Until I picked up The Grapes of Wrath, I had let those two goals kinda slide into the dust of life. I plan to correct that. Now, if I can find a place for all these new current best-sellers…maybe another trip to The Book Tavern.
