Two Great Compromisers

Rick Warren, the pastor of Saddleback Church in California, has agreed to deliver the invocation at the Obama Inauguration. Since the announcement by Obama, both Warren and Obama have faced scathing criticism form all sides of the political spectrum. The Gays and the Left have criticized Obama for “selling them out” and cavorting with a [...]
“Better” Living Through Biology

First of all the title, “Single men turning to surrogacy,” appeared in the “Living Well” section of on-line CNN struck me as ironic. The article was a glowing endorsement of the movement by some men, both gay and straight, to have surrogates bear children for them. To me, it was an amazing case of selfishness. [...]
Public Housing Eviction Notice

Last week, in a public housing pit called Cherry Tree Crossing, there was what appears to be a normal occurrence in public housing –a confrontation between law enforcement and resident, or relative of a resident, or guest ( as yet I haven’t been able to determine his status). As with most of these encounters, it [...]

After three years and several millions of taxpayer dollars Brian Nichols was found guilty by a jury for killing four people in a courthouse in Atlanta. One of these four people was a judge, a fact that is repeatedly highlighted by the media as if a judge’s life is worth more than the life of [...]

I am reminded of the parents who spend all kinds of money on Christmas presents for their kids, and the kids spend all day Christmas playing with the boxes in which the presents were wrapped. After a couple of months shopping for books, joining two book clubs, and spending time in the Book Tavern and [...]
The Book Tavern Conspiracy

In downtown Augusta, there is a bookstore called The Book Tavern. Although it has quite an eclectic collection of books and an owner who seems to really understand books and literature, its main draw to me is the fact that the owner will buy used books if you bring them to him. So, after the [...]
The Only Time Depp Was Right (And He Didn’t Write It)

There is a scene in Pirates of the Caribbean where another character accuses Johnny Depp’s character, who is a pirate, of not fighting fair and Depp says “PIRATE.” Pirates are pirates by definition so why is there consternation among the civilized nations of the world about what to do about them when they rob and [...]
I Know I Know, and I Am Certain of That

During my surfing today (I really like that phrase–it sounds so active. What it really means is that I am sitting here on my fat butt idly flipping through sites on the internet until I find one that triggers something in my stupor-brain), I came across a site where there was an ongoing discussion about [...]
Christmas Thought One

I was just thinking that if the Christians are serious about fighting the perceived secularization of Christmas then maybe they should refuse to participate in the rampant commercialization by not buying anything until the society returns to celebrating a religious holiday as it should be. Just a thought.
